Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced in 2021 that a new Supercharger location would be built in Santa Monica, featuring a 1950s-style diner and a drive-in theater showing movie clips. However, there had been no updates on this project until now.
According to documents obtained by Teslarati, Tesla has received approval from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety to construct a Diner and Drive-In Movie Supercharger in West Hollywood. The facility, located on 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, will include 32 Supercharger stalls, a restaurant with various food options, rooftop seating, and two movie theater screens showcasing clips from famous movies. While Tesla owners won’t be able to watch full-length films, the fast-charging capabilities of Superchargers will allow them to quickly replenish their vehicle’s range.
The project’s applications were submitted in November 2022, and the architect for the project is Chandler, Arizona-based Stantec Architecture, with PCL Construction Services from Glendale, California serving as the contractor. The plan was approved by the City of Los Angeles, and the permit was issued on July 18. The initial grading inspection was completed and approved on August 9.
During Tesla’s Investor Day event in March, a brief glimpse of the Tesla Diner design was shown, featuring a white and red color scheme and a ground-level building with an upper-floor terrace. The image also included a teaser of what appeared to be a vehicle wireless charging pad for home use.
This new Supercharger location in West Hollywood brings Musk’s vision of a 1950s-style diner and drive-in theater to fruition. Tesla owners in the area will soon have a unique and nostalgic charging experience while enjoying food and movie clips from iconic films.
