American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) has officially begun operations at its lithium-ion battery recycling facility in McCarran, Nevada. This commercial-scale facility showcases ABTC’s innovative recycling technologies and marks a significant step towards strengthening the US battery metals supply chain. ABTC is now able to generate commercial-scale quantities of domestic recycled battery metal products.

ABTC’s recycling system differs from traditional methods by utilizing strategic de-manufacturing and targeted chemical extraction. This approach ensures efficient recovery with minimal environmental impact and improved cost efficiency compared to conventional smelting or shredding processes.

Once fully operational, the facility will handle over 20,000 metric tonnes of battery feedstock annually. In the initial phase, ABTC will produce recycled products such as copper, aluminum, steel, lithium intermediates, and black mass intermediates. These products have already been pre-sold through a marketing agreement with global metals trader TechMet-Mercuria. Subsequent phases will focus on further refining these products into battery-grade materials.

ABTC’s CEO, Ryan Melsert, emphasized the company’s rapid execution, noting that within a month of accessing the site, the first equipment was installed, leading to the launch of commercial operations in under six months.

The establishment of the facility was made possible with the support of Storey County and the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP). ABTC recognizes their assistance and looks forward to future collaborations.
