Mini has debuted its next generation of electric vehicles, the Countryman and Cooper models, at the IAA International Motor Show in Munich. These new models offer improved performance and extended range, addressing the limited range concerns of previous versions.

The all-electric Mini Cooper starts at £30,000 OTR, while the Countryman model begins at over £40,000 RRP. Deliveries for both vehicles are set to begin in early 2024.

The Cooper is available in two output levels: E and SE. The Cooper E has a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 40.7 kWh, providing a range of up to 190 miles according to the WLTP test cycle. It features a 135 kW/184 hp electric motor and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds.

The Cooper SE, on the other hand, has an output of 160 kW/218 hp and can reach 62 mph in 6.7 seconds. It has a maximum torque of 330 Nm and offers a range of up to 250 miles with its 54.2 kWh battery.

Both models can be charged via AC and DC charging, with fast-charging capable of charging the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes.

The Countryman variant has increased in height and length, offering the versatility of a compact crossover. It also comes in E and SE performance levels. The Countryman E has a high-powered battery with a capacity of 64.7 kWh, providing a range of up to 287 miles. It features a 150 kW/204 hp electric motor and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds.

The Countryman SE, on the other hand, has an output of 230 kW/313 hp and can reach 62 mph in 5.6 seconds. It offers a combined torque of 494 Nm and has a range of 269 miles with the same battery as the Countryman E.

Both models are available in three trim levels: Classic, Exclusive, and Sport. The Cooper comes with a 24 cm fully usable circular central instrument display and offers three new exterior colors for customization.

Stefanie Wurst, Head of Mini, stated that the new Mini Cooper is a perfect fit for urban lifestyles with its electric drive and purist design. She also highlighted the versatility and powerful electric drive of the Countryman model.

In terms of pricing, the MINI Countryman Electric E starts at £41,500, while the MINI Countryman Electric SE ALL4 starts at £46,600. The MINI Cooper Electric E starts at £30,000, and the MINI Cooper Electric SE starts at £34,500.

The launch of these new models is expected to create opportunities for second-hand bargains on the previous design.
