Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) has announced the start of series production for its Freightliner eM2, a battery electric medium-duty truck designed for pick-up and delivery purposes. The production of this new series is taking place at DTNA’s manufacturing facility in Portland, Oregon.

The initial production batch of the eM2 will be delivered to several prominent firms in the United States, including Ferguson, Hogan Truck Leasing, Inc., Penske Truck Leasing, PITT OHIO, Ryder System, Inc., TITAN Freight Systems, and Velocity Truck Rental & Leasing. In Canada, Brossard Leasing and Day & Ross will be the first recipients of the eM2.

The eM2 is built on the robust Freightliner M2 106 Plus platform and follows the successful introduction of the electric Freightliner eCascadia in 2022. As of September 2023, DTNA’s eCascadia holds a strong position in the Class 8 market.

The eM2 features a custom, fully electric Detroit ePowertrain. It is equipped with electric motors and a 2-speed transmission on the drive axles, ensuring efficient energy utilization. The single-motor variant offers up to 190 continuous horsepower and a range of approximately 180 miles, while the dual-motor variant provides up to 255 horsepower with a range of 250 miles.
