Concept of 2025 Kia EV5 Electric SUV Leaked in China, Remains Authentic

The Kia EV5, an electric compact SUV, has been leaked in China. Images of the vehicle were published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and shared by CarNewsChina. Although the images show the Chinese version of the EV5, it is expected that the vehicle will have a similar design in other markets.

The production model closely resembles the Concept EV5 that was unveiled in March, with some minor changes. These include the addition of traditional side mirrors, flush door handles (the concept had none), smaller wheels, and slightly revised headlights and taillights. The rims maintain the same design as the concept but are 18 or 19 inches in size compared to the 21-inch wheels on the concept.

In terms of design, the EV5 is more similar to the Kia EV9 than the EV6, featuring an upright SUV body style instead of a raised hatchback look. It can be considered a downsized version of the EV9. Both models utilize the E-GMP EV-dedicated platform, but the EV5 is smaller, accommodating five passengers on two rows of seats instead of seven on three rows.

According to information from MIIT’s website, the Kia EV5 measures 181.7 inches in length, 73.8 inches in width, 67.5 inches in height, and has a wheelbase of 108.2 inches.

The interior of the EV5 has not been shown in the leaked images, but it is expected to be less futuristic than the concept version.

The MIIT filing reveals that the EV5 will feature an LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) Blade battery from BYD subsidiary Xiangyang Fudi Battery Co (FinDreams). It will be powered by a rear-mounted electric motor with 215 horsepower (160 kilowatts) and 229 pound-feet of torque. There is no information about a dual-motor AWD variant at this time.

It is important to note that the overseas version of the Kia EV5 may have a different battery. The Korean Car Blog previously reported that the EV5 will have an 82-kilowatt-hour NMC pack outside of China, providing up to 373 miles of range.

The Kia EV5 will be produced in China by the Kia-Yueda joint venture at its plant in Yancheng. Vehicles manufactured there will be sold in China and exported to some markets. The EV5 is the first China-made global EV from Kia-Yueda.

The official debut of the Kia EV5 is scheduled for August 25 at the Chengdu Motor Show, with pre-sales starting in November.
